If you have been into Internet Marketing even just for a very short time you will probably know that Squidoo can be used very effectively to establish your expertise in any given niche; it lets you generate traffic and backlinks to your website by creating a single webpage devoted to your subject. Squidoo has been a huge success in the Internet Marketers community, but also with anybody else who has simply something to say about any given topic.
Well guess what – Google itself has come up with a site now that is similar to Squidoo, as you can publish a “knol” (instead of a “lens”), which is a “unit of knowledge”, about any topic you want and know something about. A knol is – like a Squidoo lens – a one-page website, just that it is hosted by Google itself!
What sets Google Knol apart is that whatever you publish doesn’t have to be based on fact, but Google Knol allows you to just voice your opinion, as well.
There can be an unlimited number of knols on the same subject, and unlike with Squidoo lenses these knols can even have the same title. When somebody searches for a certain subject, they will be presented with a list of all the knols related to it, giving your knol the same exposure as everybody elses.
I expect that the community of Internet Marketers will swamp this site within a very short time as it presents a lot of new opportunities in advertising, marketing, link building and establishing expert status on their chosen topics. That every knol will be hosted by Google itself will very likely have a good effect on the knols search engine rankings, too.
It will be very interesting to see how Google Knol will fare over time compared to Squidoo. Can’t wait to see the result.
I found a very good article on Google Knol on Ezine Articles, written by Tiffany Dow. You should check it out.
